Thermal Reconditioning

Do you have thick, coarse, wavy hair? Did you ever wish that it could be straight? Well there's just the right process for you that you can get at some salons! Read on to find out more. We've actually had this done, and believe us, the results were fantastic! This read is based on our experience, so every person and salon varies. If you have questions, just click here.

What is Thermal Reconditioning?

It is a Japanese Straightening Process that permenantly straightens a person's hair that can last up to more than 6 months, depending on the person's hair or the stylist. It breaks the structures/bonds of one's hair, then chemicals, solutions, etc are applied, including of course the actual straightening iron.

What is Great and Not Great about Thermal Reconditioning?

GOOD: First of all, the results for both of us turned out fabulous! In the end it is just soft, silky, straight hair. The split ends are practically gone, and the hair is just so smooth. It will continue to be straight for about 6 months, sometimes even more, it depends. It won't get puffy when you are out in humid weather, and when you blow dry it and wash it, it's still straight. Isn't that great? But there are some really not so good reasons for getting Thermal Reconditioning.

BAD: It is pretty expensive. Since we both got this done, it costed about $300!! ($320 to be precise). Basically it is about $150-$300 per person. Yikes. It can also take about 3-6 hours per person! It is a long process, so make sure you can be patient about this (you'll need to sit still at times for example). The first three days after the process is done, you CANNOT tie back your hair, wash your hair, wet your hair, and you can't tuck strands of the hair behind your ear. But after three days you are free to do what you want! I mean if the stylist tells you not to do something, you should probably stick with the advice unless you would like to take the risk to do all of those above. Also, this process is not really effective for really curly hair and hair that has had alot of dye done to it.

It is the STYLIST that matters!!!

We've done a TON of research online before we decided to get the process done, its best if you read a few articles and experiences people have had just to be sure this is right for you or not. Like the title says, It all depends on the stylist. Most likely the same solutions/chemicals are used in every salon, so it depends on the stylist doing it. Make sure before hand, you ask them alot of QUESTIONS, such as how many experience they have. You probably want someone you can trust with your hair. If there is one little error, the whole thing can be messed up!

Our experience

Basically our experience is almost the same as other peoples' experiences online that we've read. We arrived around 12:45 pm, and it finished at around 6:00 or 7:00 pm. It took a really long time because it was both of us -_-. Sometimes they had to leave you there and etc. This is what happened in order from the best we can remember lol:

1. They washed our hair with shampoo.
2. They blew dried the hair and then straightened it with a straigtening iron.
3. They then applied this sticky, creamy, substance on the hair.
4. They brought this heating machine/device and it was tall enough to go over someone's head. They made you sit there for about 30 minutes, you CANNOT move your head because it will ruin the process. Basically the machine has heat blowing out and it moves sort of up and down.
5. After 30 minutes, they washed it out.
6. They blew dry the hair, and it was already getting a bit smooth. They then straightened it again.
7. They applied the same sticky, creamy, substance again, but this time you did not have to have the heating device "thingy" above your head. You had to sit there still for 15 minutes this time.
8. They washed it out again.
9. They blew dried it, then straightened it again and again.
10. The hairstylist then cut our hair and voila!! It was finally finished. Finally.

Conclusion? Beautiful, soft, silky, straight hair!! We love it tons. Sorry we couldn't post any pictures, but its like a miracle haha ^_^ If you have ANY QUESTIONS just click here.
